Hello, I'm Debbie Russ with the BBC News.

At least three people have been shot dead by the security forces in Myanmar during continuing protests against last month's military coup. The United Nations says Myanmar's military rulers have now killed at least 70 people and detained thousands in their efforts to crush opposition. Steve Jackson reports. Two of those who died were protesting in front of a police station in a district of the biggest city Yangon, calling for the release of other demonstrators detained earlier. Another was shot dead in Mandalay. Pictures posted online from the city show several severely injured people, including a Buddhist monk who's being carried to get help by a group of fellow protesters. The leaders of the military coup have been slowly stepping up their efforts to suppress the pro-democracy movement. But undeterred, the protest leaders have continued to organize daily demonstrations across the country.

The Irish Foreign Minister Simon Cooney has accused the United Kingdom of perverse nationalism in seeking to sign a trade deal with the United States ahead of the European Union following Brexit. He said there was enough division and competition globally without needing to create more locally. Mr. Covey spoke to the BBC. But I don't think it makes any sense for some in the UK to sort of see this as a race to see who can get a trade deal with the US first, when actually we should be looking at a transatlantic trade deal that involves the EU the UK the US and Canada and others, if they want to be involved. We all run economies that are based on very similar rules and structures. And the transatlantic relationship involving Britain should be a powerful one economically and globally.

Police in Bolivia have arrested the former interim President Jeanine Anez. Prosecutors accuse Ms. Anez and several former government ministers of taking part in a coup against the left-wing leader Evo Morales. Here's Warren Bull. The Bolivian government announced the arrest of Jeanine Anez in a tweet, which said she was in the hands of the police. In the hours since an arrest warrant was issued, there've been a heavy police presence outside her home in the northern city of Beni. But it's not clear where she was detained. Minutes after the arrest was confirmed, Jeanine Anez herself posted a tweet saying she's been a victim of political persecution by the MAS Socialist Party, which returned to power after winning October elections. She's been charged with sedition and conspiracy but maintains that a coup never took place.

The number of people now known to have been killed in western Afghanistan by a powerful car bomb has risen to eight. About 50 more were injured in the blast in Herat province with more than a dozen houses destroyed. Shortly afterwards, the United Nations condemned what it called an alarming increase in attacks deliberately targeting civilians, despite peace talks taking place between the Taliban and Afghan government.
